If you visit Flaming Acres in the early morning, you’ll often find the dahlias stretching toward the sky—leaves glistening, petals just beginning to open, and the rhythmic hum of overhead sprinklers sending gentle arcs of water across the rows.
Water is one of the simplest, most powerful gifts we give our dahlias. And here on our farm, we don’t take it for granted.

How We Water Our Dahlias
All of our dahlias are watered with overhead sprinklers, timed to run once a week for a deep, thorough soak. It’s not just about moisture—it’s about sending water deep into the soil to encourage strong roots and resilient plants.
We water in the cool of the morning, when the sun is gentle and the field is quiet. This timing helps prevent disease and gives the plants a full day to soak up the nourishment before the Idaho heat rolls in.
It may look simple from the outside, but every watering is intentional—because we know how vital it is for the health and strength of every bloom.

A Field in Bloom
The results? In just a few short weeks—from the end of July to early August—we’ve seen remarkable growth. Our plants have stretched, filled out, and are now beginning to show off those long-awaited first blooms.
And with sunny skies and warm temperatures ahead, we’re entering the kind of weather dahlias love. Sunshine, heat, and deep roots—it’s a recipe for a spectacular bloom season.
🌈 A Rainbow in the Mist
This past week, as our sprinklers ran their usual course in the still of the morning, something beautiful happened. The light caught the mist just right, and a tiny rainbow shimmered through the spray.
It wasn’t big. It wasn’t loud. But it was just enough to stop us in our tracks—a quiet whisper of God’s promise.
In that simple moment, we felt the gentle reassurance of His protection and grace. A reminder that even in the small, daily tasks—watering, weeding, waiting—He is present. He sees. He blesses.
“I have set my rainbow in the clouds, and it will be the sign of the covenant between me and the earth.”—Genesis 9:13
Soaked in Grace
At Flaming Acres, watering is more than a task on the list. It’s an act of stewardship. A symbol of faith. A rhythm of trust that what we pour out—both physically and spiritually—will be met with growth we couldn’t manufacture on our own.
And this week, as the field begins to burst into bloom, we’re reminded again:
It’s not just about the flowers. It’s about the faith to keep watering, the patience to wait, and the grace that carries it all forward.
Have a Wonderful Day!
