A First Look at the 2027 Dahlia Collection

There is something wonderful about planning next year's garden while this year's dahlias are still blooming.

Right now, our fields are growing, buds are opening, and each new flower gives us another reason to stop for a moment and enjoy what this season has brought. And yet, behind the scenes at Flaming Acres, we are already looking ahead.

With our online shop preparing to open on September 1st, we wanted to give you something that would make planning your garden a little easier—and hopefully a lot more fun.

So this year, we created something new.

Introducing Our Interactive 2027 Collection Catalog

Rather than simply scrolling through the online shop once it opens, our new Interactive 2027 Collection Catalog gives you an opportunity to explore the collection ahead of time.

Pour yourself a cup of coffee, settle into your favorite chair, and start dreaming about next summer.

We have organized the catalog to make it easier to browse dahlias in the way gardeners actually plan. You can discover our new varieties for 2027, explore dahlias by bloom size, and take a closer look at the colors, forms, heights, and characteristics that make each variety special.

And because the catalog is interactive, when a particular dahlia catches your eye, simply click on it to visit that variety in our online shop, where you can see additional photographs and information.

It is part catalog, part garden-planning guide, and perhaps just a little bit of temptation.

We have a feeling a few wish lists may be involved.

New Dahlias Are Joining the Farm

One of our favorite parts of preparing a new collection is introducing varieties we haven't offered before.

Throughout the growing season, we watch them carefully.

How do they grow?

Are they productive?

Do the blooms hold well?

Does the color in the garden live up to the photograph that first made us want to grow it?

And perhaps most importantly—would we be excited to grow it again?

Those observations help shape the collection we eventually share with you.

Our 2027 catalog includes a special section devoted to New Varieties, making it easy to see what is joining Flaming Acres for the coming season.

Some are bold.

Some are soft and romantic.

Some stopped us in our tracks the first time they bloomed.

And some may become new favorites. That is part of the fun—we get to discover them together.

Planning by Bloom Size

We also wanted the catalog to be useful for gardeners who are planning with a particular purpose in mind.

Maybe you dream about enormous dinnerplate dahlias commanding attention in the garden.

Perhaps you love medium-sized blooms for bouquets.

Or maybe the smaller ball and pompon varieties are the ones you reach for again and again when arranging flowers.

For that reason, much of the 2027 Collection is organized by bloom size, allowing you to move through the catalog and compare varieties that may work beautifully together.

Our hope is that instead of simply asking,

"Which dahlias do I like?"

the catalog helps you begin imagining,

"Where would I grow this one?"

"What would I pair it with?"

"Wouldn't those two be beautiful together in a bouquet?"

That is when a catalog becomes a garden.

A Collection Still Growing

There is one important thing we want you to know as you explore.

Our dahlias are still growing.

The tubers that will become much of our 2027 inventory are beneath the soil right now, developing while we enjoy the flowers above them.

We will not know our final inventory until the growing season ends and we begin digging, dividing, and carefully inspecting the tubers.

That means availability can change.

A variety included in the catalog may eventually have limited inventory—or, occasionally, may not be available at all.

But we don't want that uncertainty to keep us from sharing what we're growing or prevent you from beginning to plan.

We would rather invite you into the process.

From Our Field to Your Garden

One of the most rewarding things about Flaming Acres is knowing that the dahlias growing in our Idaho field today may be blooming in your garden next summer.

A tuber will be dug from the soil.

It will spend the winter carefully tucked away.

In spring, it will travel across the country.

And somewhere, months later, another flower will open.

Perhaps it will become the centerpiece of a bouquet.

Maybe you'll carry it across the street to a neighbor.

Maybe a child will choose it as their favorite.

Or perhaps you'll simply walk past it one morning, stop for a moment, and think,

"I'm so glad I planted that one."

That is the part of this little flower farm we never grow tired of.

September 1st Is Almost Here
