A Day Rooted in Beauty, Legacy & Remembrance:Announcing Kaylee Jade Dahlia Day

Kaylee Jade Dahlia Day at Franz Witte Flyer

Kaylee Jade Dahlia Day — May 9, 2026

There are some flowers that become more than blooms.

They become symbols of love.Of remembrance. Of lives that continue to leave beauty behind long after they are gone.

On Saturday, May 9th, we will gather in Franz Witte for a meaningful day centered around one very special dahlia—Kaylee Jade Dahlia.

This event is more than a flower celebration. It is a day woven together with community, creativity, compassion, and legacy.

The Kaylee Jade Dahlia was hybridized by Rosie Cooper-Vert of Rivers Dahlias in Veneta, Oregon, in honor of Kaylee Goncalves. With its luminous white petals and soft blush center, the bloom carries both elegance and tenderness—something many feel reflects Kaylee herself.

Proceeds connected to the Kaylee Jade Dahlia continue to support the Kaylee Goncalves Family Foundation, helping beauty continue to grow from unimaginable loss.

A Quilt Sewn with Love

One of the most moving pieces of the day will be the presentation of the Kaylee Jade Memorial Quilt to the Goncalves family.

Designed and brought to life by master quilter Jodi Frederick, the quilt became a nationwide labor of love. Quilt blocks arrived from members of the American Dahlia Society and sewing communities across the country—each stitch carrying compassion, remembrance, and care.

The quilt was inspired directly by the colors and movement of the Kaylee Jade Dahlia itself.

As Jodi beautifully shared:

“I want them to cuddle up on the couch and think that Kaylee is giving them a hug.”

It is difficult to imagine a more meaningful picture of comfort than that.

Honoring the Legacy of Dahlia Growers

The event will also highlight the deep legacy and generosity found within the dahlia-growing community itself.

Guests will have the opportunity to learn about the Northwest Dahlia Legacy Project and see displays honoring longtime growers and hybridizers whose work continues to shape the future of dahlias for generations to come.

Among those being honored is Jim Lamson of BJ’s Dahlias, whose decades of dedication to hybridizing and preserving beautiful varieties have left a lasting mark on the dahlia world.

A young plant of his newly introduced variety, JL Barbara Ann, will also be on display during the event.

From Our Farm to Yours

At Flaming Acres Dahlias, this event touches something deeply personal for us.

Flowers have always been about more than appearance. They carry stories. They connect generations. They remind us that beauty and grief can somehow exist side by side.

We are honored to participate in this special day by sharing tuber giveaways, educational materials, and support for an event that reflects so much of what we believe flowers can do—bring people together, offer comfort, and create lasting memories.

A Final Thought

Sometimes flowers bloom for a season.

And sometimes they bloom into something much larger than themselves.

The Kaylee Jade Dahlia has become a reminder that beauty still has the power to comfort, connect, and carry love forward.

We hope you’ll join us for this very special day.

Most Sincerely,

Debra Flaming
