This morning, Flaming Acres woke up wrapped in white. Not a heavy snowstorm—just a quiet dusting, the kind that settles gently on fence rails, rests softly on the greenhouse roof, and whispers, “Ready or not… winter is here.”
Thanksgiving is now officially fading into memory—the leftovers nearly gone, the photos still sitting on our phones, the laughter from family gatherings lingering in our hearts. But Idaho didn’t wait for December to turn the page. Today’s first snow arrived right on cue, ushering us into a new season whether we felt ready or not.
It felt almost eager, this snowfall. As if the weather itself was impatient for twinkle lights, evergreen boughs, Christmas music drifting through the house, and that unmistakable feeling of wonder that comes with Advent. Even the dahlias—tucked safely into their winter beds—seemed to rest a little deeper under the stillness.
There’s something special about the first snow.It slows the world down.It softens the edges of the farm.It signals that a sacred shift is taking place—from harvest to celebration, from gratitude to anticipation, from autumn’s warmth to winter’s hush.
As I stepped outside, the crunch beneath my boots reminded me once again that each season brings its own gifts. Thanksgiving taught us to pause and give thanks. Now winter invites us to look forward with hope, imagination, and joy.
Here on the farm, we’ll soon begin pulling out the Christmas bins, setting up nativity scenes, and preparing our hearts and home for the days ahead. But for this moment—this single, beautiful morning—I simply stood still and watched the snow settle across the fields we love so much.
As the first snow settles over Flaming Acres, I’m reminded that every season carries its own kind of wonder. Autumn’s gratitude now gives way to winter’s promise, and with it comes the quiet joy of preparing our hearts and homes for Christmas. May this first dusting of white wrap you in peace, stir up hope, and invite you to savor the beauty of a new season beginning.
Sincerely.
