After the Rain, Flaming Acres Dahlias

Updated: Oct 5

There’s something about a good rain that changes everything. Yesterday’s showers carried into the night, and this morning when I stepped outside, the farm felt brand new. The dahlia fields had perked up as if they’d all taken a deep, refreshing drink. Blooms that had been shy and slow to open finally unfurled, showing their true colors in glorious waves across the rows.

I wandered the fields with my camera in hand, and today I have nine photographs to share with you. Some are close-ups that let you peek right into the heart of the blooms, while others are wide shots capturing the rhythm of the rows—dahlias gathered together like a joyful choir singing in full harmony. The sky still held that after-rain clarity, making every color richer and more vivid. It was one of those days where you feel like you’re standing in the middle of a living painting.

As September comes to a close, I can’t help but feel grateful for the beauty around us and for all of you who share in this journey. Tomorrow marks the beginning of October, and with it comes something fun—our giveaway announcement! The winner’s name will be drawn and revealed tomorrow, October 1st, and I’ll be sending the announcement by email. Ashley is coming over to help with the big reveal, so stay tuned—it’s going to be a special moment.

Every season on the farm carries its own kind of wonder, but days like this—when the rain washes everything clean and the flowers respond with fresh joy—remind me why we do what we do. These dahlias aren’t just blooms in a field; they’re glimpses of beauty meant to be shared. Thank you for walking with us through September, and I can’t wait to celebrate October’s beginning with you tomorrow when we announce our giveaway winner.

With joy in every bloom,

Debra Flaming
