From Seed to Splendor: The Next Chapter of Our Seedling Dahlias

Last fall, we tucked away hundreds of tiny treasures—dahlia seeds harvested from our 2024 fields, each one a mystery waiting to bloom. Unlike tubers, which clone their mother plant, seeds are full of surprises. Every petal, every hue, every form is a brand-new creation, a one-of-a-kind story written by the bees who carried pollen between our 300+ varieties.
Now, as September arrives, our seedling patch has truly come alive. The diversity is breathtaking—colors and forms we never could have imagined. Alongside the petite and cheerful mignon singles, we now see elegant informal decoratives and even perfectly rounded ball dahlias among the mix. Some stand only knee-high, while others stretch over four feet tall, each staking its claim in the garden.

Beauty in the Unexpected
Each day feels like unwrapping gifts. One bloom opens with a fiery center ringed by soft lavender; another shines bright gold with layers upon layers of petals. No two are the same, and that’s the joy of growing dahlias from seed—there’s no catalog to predict them, only God’s creativity written in petals.
These seedlings remind us of the beauty in new beginnings. Just as Scripture says:
“Because of the Lord’s great love we are not consumed, for His compassions never fail. They are new every morning; great is Your faithfulness.” – Lamentations 3:22–23
Every morning in the seedling rows feels like a glimpse of that promise—fresh mercies, fresh blooms, fresh wonders.
What’s Next
We’ll continue watching, documenting, and prayerfully selecting which of these beauties may be worthy of carrying forward into future Flaming Acres generations. Perhaps one of these humble seedlings will grow into a named variety for our catalog someday!
