Taking a Break — The Kind That Helps You Grow

Taking a Break...
Taking a Break...

We’ve had a few unexpected “breaks” around Flaming Acres this week. First, our potato digger decided to take one of its own—a tooth broke clean off a gear, and the whole piece had to be refabricated at the machine shop. With only five rows left to harvest, we found ourselves suddenly… on pause.

At first, it felt like a setback. But truthfully, we all needed a little breathing room. After weeks of long days in chilly air, with frosty mornings nipping at our fingers and blooms bowing low in the cold, this break gave us a chance to rest, reflect, and reset before the final push.

It’s funny how life works that way. Sometimes the detours, slowdowns, and mechanical mishaps are the very things that steady us. They remind us that strength isn’t built in the rush—it’s found in the stillness between the effort. Just like the dahlias, we need time to gather energy before the next season of growth.

While the equipment rested, I spent the day sending out our October Subscriber Perks—including Ashley’s beautiful autumn farm tour video and the printable guide for creating keepsake blooms, thanks to Brynda Fauth’s expert touch. It was the perfect reminder that even when we’re not out in the field, there’s still beauty being shared, created, and prepared for the days ahead.

So here’s to taking a break—the kind that helps you grow stronger, see clearer, and find joy in the in-between.

Sincerely,

Debra Flaming
