Precious Gifts: The Joy of Grandchildren

Our Grandkids
Our Grandkids

Every time I look into the eyes of my grandchildren, I see God’s handiwork—each one crafted with a personality, passion, and purpose all their own. They bring so much life to our family, and I’m constantly reminded of the verse:

“Children are a heritage from the Lord, offspring a reward from him.” Psalm 127:3

Jett: The Adventurer at 13

My oldest grandson, Jett, is full of energy and friendship. Whether it’s tossing the football, riding his dirt bike, or climbing the great willow tree by the canal to swing into the water, adventure seems to follow him. His shack with friends, laughter by the fire pit, and love for the outdoors make him a natural leader. I pray that as Jett grows, he’ll discover that true strength comes from the Lord, just as Joshua 1:9 reminds us:

“Be strong and courageous. Do not be afraid; do not be discouraged, for the Lord your God will be with you wherever you go.”

Westyn: A Cowboy in the Making

At just two years old, Westyn already has a rope in his hand and a cowboy spirit in his heart. He loves riding with his dad, caring for the animals, and practicing his roping skills on anything that stands still long enough—including the dogs and even his mama! I see in him the joy of hard work and persistence. Proverbs 22:6 encourages us:

“Start children off on the way they should go, and even when they are old they will not turn from it.”

Livvy: My Fruit-Picking, Story-Loving Girl

Olivia, or “Livvy” as I call her, is 3½ and my little farm helper. She fills buckets with apricots, peaches, and cherries, then happily cuts lavender to make small bouquets. Our morning ritual of her hot chocolate and my coffee is one of my greatest treasures. She loves Bible stories—especially Dave and the Giant Cucumber!

Her tender heart reminds me of Matthew 19:14:

“Let the little children come to me, and do not hinder them, for the kingdom of heaven belongs to such as these.”

Aubrey: A Girl of Action

Just 1½ years old, Aubrey is already climbing, running, and exploring the farm with fearless delight. From running the edge of the trampoline to cuddling her stuffed kitty, she keeps everyone on their toes. She loves raspberries, animals, and motion. Her boldness reminds me of Psalm 139:14:

“I praise you because I am fearfully and wonderfully made; your works are wonderful, I know that full well.”

Riley: Soon to Join the Story

In just a few weeks, baby Riley will make her entrance into the world, and I can’t wait to meet her. I already know God has placed something special inside her, a purpose waiting to unfold.

Encouragement for You

As Nana and Papa, Dion and I pray daily for each child—that they will be safe, protected, and grow in the knowledge of God’s love. The love I feel for them is immeasurable, but even more incredible is knowing that God loves them even more.

Children are not just little people passing through our homes; they are eternal souls entrusted to our care. May we be faithful in listening, encouraging, and nurturing the gifts God has placed in them.

Take a moment today to thank God for the children in your life—whether they are yours by birth, adoption, friendship, or church family. Pray over them, delight in their uniqueness, and remember this promise:

“The Lord will watch over your coming and going both now and forevermore.” — Psalm 121:8

From this blessed Nana’s heart,
