Welcoming the Season: Christmas Decorating Day at the Farmhouse

Tuesday, December 2nd

Today was Christmas decorating day here at the Flaming Acres farmhouse—a tradition that always seems to officially usher in the warmth and wonder of the season. As I moved from room to room, hanging boughs and placing wreaths just so, the house slowly transformed into a soft glow of lights and evergreen. There’s something about fresh greenery and the sparkle of tiny bulbs that makes even the ordinary spaces feel touched by joy.

We’re getting everything ready for our family gathering this coming weekend. The laughter, the bustle, the grandkids underfoot—all of it feels close already as I prepare the house to welcome them in. On Saturday, everyone will join in decorating the Christmas tree together. I can already picture tiny hands reaching for ornaments, the gentle disagreements about whose turn it is to place the star, and the familiar stories that come out year after year as we unwrap each treasured piece.

We’re also looking forward to attending the community Christmas tree lighting and parade this weekend—small-town traditions that never fail to stir my heart. There’s something beautiful about neighbors gathering in the chilly air, bundled in hats and scarves, waiting for that single moment when the tree flickers to life and the crowd breathes in the magic all at once. It reminds me that we’re meant to celebrate together, not simply decorate our own corners of the world.

Leaning Into the Beauty of the Season

As the house settled into its twinkling glow today, I found myself thinking about how easy it is to rush through December—to move from task to task without leaving space for our spirits to be restored. But Christmas is more than events, gatherings, and busy schedules. It’s an invitation:a quiet and holy reminder to slow down, lift our eyes, and remember the miracle we’re celebrating.

This season, I want to encourage you to lean in.Lean into the beauty. Lean into the moments that come softly. Lean into the joy that rises in simple things—a child’s excitement, a candlelit evening, the hush of a winter morning.

Most of all, lean into the great gift at the center of it all: the birth of Jesus, our Savior who came into the world not with fanfare, but with humility, hope, and overwhelming love. His light still shines in every wreath we hang, every song we sing, every flicker of warmth that stirs our hearts this season.

May your home be filled with peace, your days sprinkled with wonder, and your spirit anchored in the One whose arrival changed everything.

Sincerely,

Debra Flaming
