Breakthrough: After the Rain

The rain finally let up this afternoon, and the light that followed was pure gold. The dahlias seemed to glow as if the storm had washed every petal clean. I stepped into the field—camera in hand—ready to begin again.

After days of frustration, countless retakes, and learning from my earlier filming mistake, something shifted today. I slowed down. I looked closer. And suddenly, I began to see again—the way water droplets cling to the edges of petals, how the late-season blooms lean a little heavier with wisdom, how even the fading ones still hold beauty.

This time, I captured the dahlias not just as flowers, but as stories: of resilience, patience, and grace. Maybe that’s what “redoing” really is—a second chance to notice what we missed before.

As Dion prepares to begin topping the blooms and digging the first tubers next week, I can’t help but feel thankful for the pause this rainstorm gave us. It reminded me that sometimes beauty is born in the in-between moments—the waiting, the wet fields, the hush after the storm.

“He makes everything beautiful in its time.” — Ecclesiastes 3:11

“Be still, and know that I am God.” — Psalm 46:10

When life slows us down—or even stops us in our tracks—it’s easy to see it as wasted time. But often, it’s grace. The pause allows our perspective to clear, much like the air after a storm. Maybe the “redo” moments in our lives aren’t setbacks at all, but sacred invitations to begin again with clearer eyes and a softer heart.

A gentle challenge for today:

Where might God be inviting you to begin again? Perhaps it’s in your work, your relationships, or your faith. Step into that space with humility and hope. The beauty waiting beyond the rain might surprise you.

Enjoy this little glimpse of what I saw today. I hope these photos bring a bit of calm, color, and encouragement to your Friday afternoon.

With gratitude and grace,

Debra Flaming
