Times of Refreshing

The air has shifted—mornings are cooler, evenings arrive earlier, and the fields are bursting with late-season color. After the long stretch of summer heat, the dahlias are lifting their faces again, renewed by the crispness of fall. Creation itself seems to breathe a sigh of relief, as if reminding us that every season carries its own refreshment.
In the very beginning, God set this pattern for us. After six days of creating the heavens, the earth, and everything in it, He rested on the seventh day. Not because He was weary, but to give us a picture of what a healthy, holy rhythm looks like. Rest is not wasted—it is sacred.
We too need times of refreshing. Moments to quiet the noise and draw near to our Creator. It looks different for each of us, but the heart of it remains the same: slowing down to notice God’s goodness and to let Him renew our souls.
Refreshing might look like:
Laughing with family and dear friends, sharing stories that knit hearts closer.
Taking a slow walk in nature, letting the beauty of God’s design awaken gratitude.
Pausing to watch animals at play—or cherishing your own furry companions.
Reading to a child, listening to their wonder, holding them close.
Enjoying a coffee or meal with someone you love, unhurried and present.
Opening God’s Word, letting His truth bring clarity, comfort, and inspiration.
Psalm 23 reminds us that our Shepherd “leads us beside still waters” and “restores our soul.” What a gift—that even in a busy, noisy world, we are invited to step away and find refreshment in Him.
A Gentle Invitation
As this new season unfolds, I encourage you to choose one way to pause and breathe in God’s goodness this week. Mark a time on your calendar if you need to. Let it be more than an appointment—let it be an offering. Meet the Lord in stillness, laughter, beauty, or friendship, and allow Him to restore your spirit.
As the seasons change, find times of refreshing in God’s presence. Discover ways to rest, renew, and restore your soul through simple, life-giving practices.
In His Rest and Refreshing,
