Every September, dahlia growers from across the Treasure Valley gather together for one of the most colorful events of the season—the Southwest Idaho Dahlia Society Show at JUMP in Boise. This year’s show will be held Saturday, September 13th, and for the very first time, we’ll be stepping into the excitement not just as visitors, but as participants!
The show is a celebration of creativity, beauty, and the love of dahlias. From single bloom entries to elaborate bouquets and artistic arrangements, the categories are as diverse as the flowers themselves. Whether it’s a “People’s Choice” favorite, a vintage dahlia challenge, or even a Farmer’s Market bunch supporting The Idaho Foodbank, each class showcases the unique ways these blooms can inspire joy.
For us, this is uncharted territory. We’ve never entered a dahlia show before, but the idea of preparing flowers, arranging vases, and maybe even trying a themed display feels like a grand adventure. More than the ribbons or awards, it’s the opportunity to learn, connect with fellow growers, and see the dazzling variety of dahlias raised by people right here in our community.
This year, we’re especially excited to enter photographs of our blooms. Capturing the beauty of dahlias through the lens has been one of our favorite ways to celebrate them, and sharing those images with others feels like another extension of the joy they bring. It’s amazing how a single snapshot of a bloom can hold a memory of the field, the sunlight, and the season all at once.
This week, we’ll be sharing more about what we plan to bring—whether it’s a few blooms, a vase arrangement, or photographs that capture the heart of our fields. Just gathering, selecting, and preparing feels like a celebration of the hard work and joy we’ve poured into our fields this summer.
If you’re local, mark your calendar for Saturday, September 13th at JUMP in Boise. The show opens to the public at 10:00 am, Awards are Announced at 3:00 pm and end at 5:00 pm. and it’s a wonderful way to enjoy the artistry of dahlias in every form. Who knows—you might just discover a new favorite variety or meet a gardener who inspires your own flower journey.
Inspired to Share (Show),
