Today our farm, Flaming Acres Dahlias, had the joy of welcoming the Southwest Idaho Dahlia Society as part of their annual garden tour. What a blessing it was to meet so many wonderful gardeners, flower lovers, mothers, daughters, friends, and neighbors! The day was filled with smiles, laughter, and new connections as we celebrated our shared love for the dahlia.
The group visited four gardens across the Treasure Valley—two in Eagle, one in Nampa, and ours in Caldwell—all tucked near the capital city of Boise. After strolling the gardens, we relaxed to the music and shared a meal together, with a lively raffle that sent many guests home with thoughtful gifts.
A Day on the Farm

Dion was in his element showing off his newest piece of machinery—an organic potato planter that he plans to convert into a dahlia tuber planter. It tied in perfectly with the day’s theme: Think Big Production. He shared his vision for expanding dahlia tuber production across more and more of the farm, and the group could see his excitement and passion firsthand.

Meanwhile, I had the fun of introducing guests to the blooms coming from our seedling patch.
With scissors in hand, visitors were able to snip their own stems and craft little bouquets to take home—a sweet way to carry a piece of the farm with them. While we weren’t able to walk through the main dahlia fields today (the sprinklers were running and the plants are still gearing up for their September show), it gave everyone a glimpse of what’s to come when the fields burst into full glory later this season.
Looking Ahead
Chris Samelson, president of the SW Idaho Dahlia Society, reminded us about the upcoming annual Dahlia Show at JUMP in downtown Boise on Saturday, September 13th. Open to the public starting at 10 a.m., it promises to be a breathtaking event—whether you’re competing or simply want to marvel at the extraordinary diversity of dahlias. (I’ll include a link below with details so you can mark your calendar.)
If you love flowers and have a soft spot for dahlias, consider joining the SW Idaho Dahlia Society. Monthly meetings are a chance to connect with friendly, knowledgeable flower enthusiasts who are always eager to share tips, encouragement, and inspiration.
Dion and I had such a wonderful time hosting this group today. We look forward to nurturing these new friendships and continuing to promote Idaho-grown dahlias together for years to come.
