There’s something special about opening the farm gates to fellow dahlia enthusiasts—the shared excitement, the swapping of tips, the joy of seeing the flowers through someone else’s eyes. On Saturday, August 16, we’ll have the privilege of hosting the Southwest Idaho Dahlia Society as the final stop on their summer garden tour.
After a morning of visiting gardens, Flaming Acres will be the place to slow down, relax, and enjoy a well-earned lunch. We’re looking forward to welcoming members with a shady spot to sit, a view of the blooms, and plenty of time for good conversation.
Think Big and Production – How To
One of the highlights of the day will be our short talk, Think Big and Production – How To, where Dion and I will share a behind-the-scenes look at how we grow dahlias on a larger scale. From planting to harvest, we’ll walk through the methods and tools that help us tend thousands of plants each season.
We’ll have some of our farm implements on display so visitors can see firsthand the equipment we rely on—from the tools that make planting and cultivation easier, to the gear that helps us harvest and store our tubers efficiently.
A Garden Full of Stories
Guests will also have the chance to explore both our dahlia field and our seed-started dahlia garden. These seed-grown beauties are some of the more exciting blooms to watch—each one a surprise, each one unique. For us, they’re a reminder of how much wonder can come from something so small.
Of course, the early bloomers of field dahlias will be putting on a show too!
More Than Just Flowers
At Flaming Acres Dahlias, we believe every gathering is about more than just the blooms—it’s about the people who come together because of them. We’re honored to be part of a community like the Southwest Idaho Dahlia Society, where knowledge is shared, friendships grow, and the love of dahlias keeps us all digging a little deeper.
We’re also looking forward to a day of learning, laughter, and plenty of petals. If you live in SW Idaho and you’re not already a member of SWIDS, it’s a wonderful way to connect with others who share your passion for these incredible flowers.
Have a great day!
