Meeting the Goal

Wednesday, October 22nd:

Today was a full and productive day on the farm. We got started early with our teens washing, drying, and cutting dahlia tubers. After lunch, our faithful friends Steve and Cathy joined in, and together we pushed hard until 7:30 this evening with one goal in mind—to get everything that was harvested completely cut. I’m proud to announce that we met that goal!
Tomorrow we’ll be able to start digging again, and it feels good knowing we can take the freshly harvested tubers straight over to the washing station to divide, inspect, and store them right away. Considering that this was the most disappointing field, there were still a few bright spots—proof that even in the tough rows, there’s something good waiting to be found.
I’m calling it an early night with a big bowl of chicken soup and a grateful heart. Tomorrow will be another physically demanding day, but tonight, I rest easy knowing we made progress and met our goal.
As I think back on the day, I’m reminded that progress often comes one small victory at a time. Every clean tuber, every label stamped, every friend who showed up to lend a hand—it all adds up to something bigger than the work itself. The harvest season can be long and weary, but moments like today remind me that perseverance and teamwork always bear fruit.
Tomorrow will bring its own set of challenges, but tonight I’ll rest knowing that God’s hand is in each step, guiding us through the labor toward the beauty still waiting beneath the soil.
Sincerely,
Debra Flaming
